Our Story:
The Heart of Black Rock Wagyu

Founded in the wake of a 2024 winter storm, Black Rock Wagyu is the culmination of 15 years of research and a lifelong love for the cattle industry.

We’ve turned a retirement dream into a mission to provide quality beef that is truly 'a cut above.'

Health Benefits

Caught our eye. Our fathers had health issues (heart), and we wanted to help people enjoy beef and still eat healthier. As both of us love the cattle industry, we felt like we wanted to help others.

We look for elevated quality above prime. We know there are no additives or preservatives in our meat. We are also looking out for our grandchildren's benefits for the future and others.

Bev's parents owned and operated Knox Auction for 28 years, and she was around cattle all the time. Jeff has worked with cattle on and off throughout his life.

A Legacy of Quality

With a combined lifetime of experience—from the auction rings of Knox Auction to the pastures of Iowa—we know what makes a superior animal. We’ve dedicated our "retirement" to raising Wagyu because we believe Iowans deserve a better steak.

Why Wagyu?

Unlike traditional breeds, Wagyu requires a slower, more intentional process. This patience is rewarded with incredible marbling—fine veins of healthy fats that melt at room temperature. The result is a steak that is remarkably tender and packed with the same beneficial fats found in salmon, making it a "cut above" in both taste and health.

"We wanted to bring something truly special to Iowa—a level of flavor and tenderness that you usually only find in high-end steakhouses. By raising our Wagyu right here at home, we can ensure that every family gets to experience that 'gold standard' quality at their own dinner table."
